We have a dedicated practice whose sole focus is recruiting for boards of directors and consulting on matters of corporate governance. As governance issues continue to change, our Board Services practice is sensitive to the impact that this has on clients and tailors its approach to the specific needs of each client.

Recognising that the strongest element of an effective board is its composition, the Board Services recruitment approach presents candidates who possess the appropriate blend of knowledge, skill, attitude, experience and commitment. In addition, a significant proportion of the assignments that we conduct each year involve recruiting international as well as previously disadvantaged individuals, an area in which our Board Services team has developed particular expertise and a reputation for creativity and success.

Conducting a Board of Directors Search

Our Board Services practice follows a comprehensive, seven-step process in conducting a board of directors search, ensuring the proper fit between candidate and client.

Step 1: Discuss with client and determine the specification for the search.

Step 2: Use a proprietary diagnostic instrument (“Board Barometer”) to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the profiles of existing board members, identifying all gaps in terms of expertise, experience, diversity and independence.

Step 3: Identify individuals who have the desired profiles.

Step 4: Review backgrounds with client to select candidates for further consideration.

Step 5: Contact possible candidates in accordance with client's preference ranking.

Step 6: Schedule meetings between client and candidates.

Step 7: Extend offer, assisting client with appropriate engagement documentation wherever necessary.
