Lydia Cillie-Schmidt
Industrial Psychologist

Lydia has been functioning as an independent consultant since July 2008. Her focus areas are: the design and implementation of Assessment Centres, psychometric assessments, the design and presentation of training programmes, coaching, mentoring, management of learnerships/internships, performance management, succession development, organisation design & development and the design and implementation of Talent Management systems and processes. Lydia is also a coach/tutor and a meeting facilitator and has extensive experience in this area.

As a permanent employee she gained experience in the telecommunications, manufacturing, mining and broadcasting industries. 

Lydia has more than 24 years’ experience as an industrial psychologist and leader, working as a permanent employee for major corporate companies in South Africa. She has worked at Vodacom for 11 years and for the last 7 years at Vodacom Lydia has been the Head of Human Resources Development, taking responsibility for the total function and implementation of the company’s Human Capital development strategy. Before this she worked at companies such as the Department of Post and Telecommunications, Sasol and the SABC. In all these roles she was always involved with assessment centres, performance management, talent management, training, mentorship, leadership/management development, succession development, career counselling and facilitation.

Lydia has been instrumental in the design of a collaborative development centre and a Sales Development Centre while working at the SABC. She also designed and implemented a follow-up system to ensure the development of skills after attendance of a development centre at the SABC. At Vodacom Lydia has designed and implemented various strategic development programmes such as The Succession Development Programme, The Mentorship Programme, The Graduate Programme for Females in Technology and The Young Achievers Programme. She and her team at Vodacom provided business-focussed solutions to internal clients including the implementation of assessment tools for selection, development, succession-planning and team effectiveness. She has also been involved in the administering of and feedback on 360 degree evaluations. These engagements have spanned all levels (from support staff to executives) within the organisations where she was employed.   Earlier in her career Lydia did part-time consulting work and as such got exposure to industries like food manufacturing, education and utilities.

Lydia holds a D Litt et Phil and Masters in Industrial Psychology; is a Registered Industrial Psychologist with the South African Health Professions Council and is a member of the South African Assessment Centre Study Group, the SA Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) Advisory Board and Comensa (Coaching and Mentoring Association of SA).
